Can't Partition Drive
Its a Dell D531 and Im trying to install PCLOS on it however when trying to partiton the drive I get an error reading Error on NTFS Partition re enter windows run Check disk restart twice blah, blah, blah cluster accounting failed extra cluster $bitmap and than list 10 places it has theses "extra clusters"
Its a work laptop, so i'm sure someone in IT thaught they were being smart, (As they Know use Linux) Anyone know a way sround this?
Currently has Vistaughhhh on it (sorry i threw up a little in my mouth)
I've also try'd repartitioning in Mepis and Suse to no avail with the same error.
Are you keeping Windows? If not, then you can simply erase the MBR and start over. Even easier, the typical Linux installer will have an option to automatically setup the new system using the whole drive.
If you are keeping Windows, did you first re-size the existing Windows partition(s)? This can be done--e.g.--using the GParted stand-alone bootable CD.
Can you boot up from the Linux LiveCD? If so, open a terminal and run "fdisk -l" and post the results here.

I HAVE to leave windows on it.
I get the error when trying to resize the partition.
What tools are you using to re-size the partition? For example, are you trying to do it while running Windows? (Not a good plan). Regardless, try GParted if all else fails.
Do you have permission to do this to the company computer?
Do you have a Windows installation disk if something goes wrong?

Came with dell OS Recovery Disk. The laptop is actually mine to keep, (I get a new one every 3 years) but the IT Guys load office, Giraffe, and the networking software on it.
I try'd resizing the partition in Mepis (Which Uses Gparted renamed as "partition editor" I believe, kinda like Iceweasel and Firefox)
