Can't Locate Module wlan0
I am tring to get my Linksys WiFi card to work with my Linux install. The card is WPC54GS.
When I follow the ndiswrapper steps, and run ndiswrapper -l it says "driver lsbcmnd present, hardware present" so I think everything is okay there. The problem comes when I try the next step. When I run modprobe ndiswrapper, there is no output at the console, but in the system log it says: modprobe: Can't locate module wlan0 Anyone know how to fix this? |
use
#ndiswrapper -m this will write a modprobe configuration. then modprobe it. |
Thanks for the reply. I did all of that. Here is excatly what I have done so far:
ndiswrapper -i lsbcmnds.inf ndiswrapper -l (it says driver present, and harware present) ndiswrapper -m modprobe ndiswrapper iwconfig still doesn't show wlan0 I also tried: dhcpcd wlan0 and then iwconfig wlan0 Nothing. Why in'st iwconfig showing wlan0?? Thanks for the help |
try typing:
iwconfig wlan0 iwconfig didn't show wlan0 until i typed that |
^oops i didn't notice you typed that, sorry
have you tried ifconfig wlan0 up i cant remember the exact steps i took, which distro are you using? |
I tried ifconfig wlan0
Im using Slack 9.1 on Inspiron 8200. Thanks for the reply! |
Let me elaborate: Here is my Konsole output. I uninstalled the driver, and reinstalled ndiswrapper and started from scratch:
Code:
God votes Republican. |
Anyone remeber how they set up their Slack Wlan0 on a Dell?
|
Anyone? I don't really want to give up on this...
|
Odd. Although my card may use a different chipset, ndiswrapper worked fine with on my Dell. From what I can gather, the v2 of your card contains a TI vs. Broadcom chipset.
Please post the output of lsmod and lspci -v to see if we can get any more clues. Also, to confim since I don't see this explicitly in your commands, have you tried to bring up the interface with "ifconfig wlan0 up?" |
I had that same message and all I had to do was reboot.
|
Thanks for the replies. When I ran ifconfig wlan0 up it said wlan0 not found or what ever.

The lspci confirms the card chipset, but lsmod shows no driver loaded and that's consistent with your symptoms. I can't explain, though, why it's not loading.
|
Is this an issue with my laptop? or the PCMCIA card? If I use a new card will it work? Id rather not tho, because I just bought this card for $60!
|
If you do an lsmod right after a modprobe ndiswrapper, does it show up?
