Can't get onboard wireless on laptop to work with Fedora 7

Hello all,

I am really new linux user so I will appreciate any help that anyone can provide me, this is the first time that I installed linux, I worked with hpux before but just some work related things, Well my problem is: I installed Fedora 7, but I can't get my wireless adapter to work, I got my onboard nic (ethernet) working, than one is fine is just the wireless, i went to some forums online looking for some answers but no luck so far, I have a Gateway MT6705, if not mistaken the adapter is a internal Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter

Well thanks to everybody for you attention.

Manny

A lot of wireless adapters don't have native linux drivers, but there are two ways to go ndiswrapper is a tool for using Windows drivers, there is also MadWifi. I've only used ndsiwrapper - http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/

You may need to use the command line, though FC7 may have a GUI tool once ndiswrapper is sintalled. Try opening the package manager (install/update software) and then searching for "ndis" you should get ndiswrapper and anything that goes with it.

You will also need to find the Windows drivers. If you have XP installed, look for a folder called "drivers".

To check exactly what your adapter is, open a terminal as root user and type "lspci" which will give you a full listing of your hardware.

For more help have a look in the Fedora forums - http://forums.fedoraforum.org/
