Can't get bootable USB to work on Asus Eee 1000H (.img works, but not .iso)
Hello!
I've been trying to install Linux on my new Asus Eee 1000H, but sofar with no luck. I've managed to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix which was a .img-file, but I don't like it.
I've now tried Crunchbang, Eeebuntu and a few others and sofar I haven't managed to get it to work.
I've tried using Unetbootin and PortableLinux and none of them work. I get it to create the USB installation, but the computer doesn't show it as a boot option (when I used the .img the Bios shows it as "Lexar", but when I use an iso it says "Removeable device").
I've checked the boot-flag, and I've tried the suggestion to write over the MBR using "dd -if=/dev/zer0 -of=/dev/sdb" (something like that).
Nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?
You should follow the instructions given at each individual distro site for how to install on your netbook. Most netbooks do not have CD/DVD drives, therefore, it must have bootable USB capability in order to install OS's. That means it is down to how you prepare your USB stick, which leads me back to my first sentence!
Two distros you should look at before making your decision: Moblin and Jolicloud, both good, neither are production ready. I currently run Eeebuntu, Jolicloud and Windows XP on my Asus Eeepc 1005HA. Eeebuntu is particularly impressive from my perspective.
