No nothing was done to vista before the
ubuntu install. As I recall after the and
rebooting and closing. I started the computer
and in the grub menu selected the first first
vista choice. It put up something and I think
I pressed enter (do not remember way to exit)
It put up some stuff. Did a hard shutdown.
When I rebooted I selected the second vista
choice and tried IE, start, my computer tried
a few choices and nothing worked.
Guess I know what my chore is.
If you are quick you can select vista from grub menu & start pressing F8 during it's bootup & repair.
Or from the windows Desktop

Create a shortcut for a command line prompt with elevated privileges
If you are like me and use the command line a lot, consider creating a shortcut that will directly open a command prompt possessing administrative privileges.
1. Right-click an empty spot on the Desktop
2. In the context menu, select “New”
3. Select “Shortcut”
4. In the box labeled “Type the location of the item”, enter “cmd.exe” (without quotes)
5. Press “Next”, give the shortcut a name and choose “Finish”
6. Right-click the new shortcut icon
7. Choose "Properties" from the context menu
8. Click the button “Advanced”
9. Put a check by “Run as administrator”
10. Click “OK”
Here's what I did.
Grub2
Ubuntu with linux 3.5.0-49-Generic
Memory Test (memtest86+)
Memory Test (memtest86+ console 115200)
Windows Vista (Loader (on /dev/sda1)
Windows Vista (Loader (on /dev/sda2)
Apparantly I began the corruption by clicking
on the first Windows Vista. A string of error
message appeared.
Now on to the repair attempt.
I followed the instructions supplied in post # 17
and got the following:
ray@tallguy:~$ sudo fdisk -l
[sudo] password for ray:

Then I followed the instruction in post # 18 and after a few minutes
got the following:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and
successfully repaired them. Details are included in
the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBSlog. For example:
c:\windows\Logs/CBS\CBS.log.
I want to thank the readers and those who provided the
solutions to this problem.
I might add the owner of the computer is also very pleased.
