Boots from ISO DVD, but not from USB pen. Asus eepc
Hi (or good evening in Italy),
fist time I am posting in Lquestions!
I have an ASUS eepc with ubuntu preinstalled.
I would like to install Linux mint like on my desktop.
Installation starts from DVD but stops because of lost rtc ....interrupts error, but this is not the point.
The matter is that USB pen with ISO is not recognised by BIOS (firmware updated) at boot, despite it is regularly seen once OS is active. Tried with other pens, other ISO, methods..doesn't work. When I simulate an installation on desktop, it starts smoothly.
First of all hello and welcome and I wish for a quick resolution to Italy's current problems.
It used to be that flash drives had to be made bootable by design or programs. Usually you like to see a device in bios. Sometimes you have to boot twice to bios to "see" a device. If it isn't there then some issue with usb or bios I'd think. I'd think testing it with just syslinux on a flash drive alone ought to show something.
Ideally the older made for 32 bit stuff and especially the eepc stuff should be used on a cd I'd think to get it going. I'd try that first. In fact many install cd's let you select the usb as source but that isn't really what you asked.
Distribution: Mainly Devuan, antiX, & Void, with Tiny Core, Fatdog, & BSD thrown in.

You need to set the USB to boot before the hard drive in the computer's BIOS settings, failing that, you should be able to bring up a boot menu using one of the function keys, which will then let it boot from USB.
If the .iso file is not a hybrid, you will need to run isohybid against it.
Thanks, I hope experience we are getting with this virus will be useful when it will reach Third World: it will be a disaster there
Bios priorities: "removable device", then DVD, finally HD
Just understood meaning of your sentence about Syslinux and isohybrid, at first I said: I understand nothing, is my english so terrible?
Anyway after googling I am more confused: shall I replace Grub on my current configuration or shall I use this tool to modify ISO? What shall I do practically?
How do I know which one is the suitable bootloader for me?
Model number of eeepc so members can tell you hotkeys to get into bios. I think my 701SD and 900 used esc, f1. pr del. To get into bios when 1st powered on.
Edit. My bad. I missed 1011px in the inxi report.
Maybe this will work.
I posted a message yesterday before rokytnji, but it has not yet approved.
I know how to set boot priority.
I know nothing about different tools than grub. How do I know if -iso is hybrid and then choose the proper tool.
I checked procedure in google, but I got more confused: shall bootlader be installed before formatting current OS or do I need to modify the ISO?

When I look up hpet1, I get this. Home > Virtualization > VMware

I have seen this console message reported on just about every NSX Manager appliance I've worked on. It's normal and has no impact on the normal operation of the manager.
I suspect the kernel is reporting HPET (high precision event timer) messages to the console output by default.

I'm thinking that you may be trying to install a VM image...
It must be a proper installation .iso file, to be able to install the O/S to your computer.

No, I am trying to install stadard ISO image taken from officiale website.
I also tried with unebootin, which autonomously prepare and format ISO.
When switching ON the netbook, following error uses to appear: mnt/usb-htc....is not ready or present. Seems like it remembers smartphone had been connected and still expect it
type S to skip or M to proceed manually
if you go manually and then exit you get to root directory
root@nico....
maybe external boot is not possible because PC wants to get from smartphone htc?
Another Windows centric forum member I see really likes this program for making usb in a gui environment.
The nice thing is. I think it handles the uefi centric stuff also. I noticed 32 bit and 64 bit downloads as well a 64 bit portable for Windows. As well as a download link for MacOS.
