Make a dd image of the MBR when it's good. And when it's bad. And compare them. Also make sure your /etc/fstab entires point at partitions, not entire disks. UUIDs are partition specific. The swap and / UUIDs should NOT match, otherwise they are not unique. And if you're still using /dev/ there make sure they make sense as well.

Shadow 7: We just concluded that the MBR doesn't change at all, so there is no "bad" image. Still it's funny the laptop manages to wake up from suspension normally, but fails to boot properly. And on multiple distros that is. Personally I'd point my finger at the BIOS.

vecciora: Could you check whether your BIOS offers any options about suspension, secure booting and the like?
