boot sequence hangs

I have a NEC Versa laptop (Im not sure about model number)

96 megs of memory
pentium 2
trying to install slackware 9
I formated the hd using ext2

Its kind of old, but I am able to do a boot install from the cd rom, but when I reboot after configuring everything the boot process hangs right after setting system time from the hardware clock.

I have no idea what to do and I havent been able to find anything on the net that seems relevant.

Any ideas?
