Boot live Mint on Mac

How do I boot to live session DVD on MacBook OS 10.6.8? I already tried:
Insert DVD - Shutdown - Boot pressing C:
A screen appeared:

1.
2.
Select CD-ROM type:

I entered 1, 2, just Enter. Nothing seems to be happening. I see and hear no indication that the disc is spinning.

I'm not speaking from expertise, but a quick Google turned up this:

It suggests "dehybridising" the ISO before writing it to DVD.

I found a LinuxMint for Mac. https://mattgadient.com/ What do I format the USB Stick to? FAT 32? Something else?

I burned linuxmint-18-cinnamon-64bit-mac-mattgadient.com.iso to a DVD as it's not designed to be installed on USB Stick. The DVD boots on the Mac. Took a while to come up. I began to wonder if it goes directly to install, or live session. I turned the machine off as I want to see how well it works in live session as I do not want to wipe OS 10.6.8 yet.

Anybody know if linuxmint-18-cinnamon-64bit-mac-mattgadient.com.iso boots to live session?

I assume that it is just the standard Mint installer ISO, dehybridised with perhaps one or two other small modifications, so yes it will launch into a live session with an option to install. Try it. If it looks as if it wants to install then you can always abort the session.

Can I just point out that the current version of Mint is 18.1 ("Serena"), not 18. There is a Mac installer on Matt's page (https://mattgadient.com/2016/07/11/l...e-2006-models/) for 18.1, just above the one for 18.
