Boot from a usb CD-ROM

Hello, guys! I have got a kinda old Sony laptop here. It has an internal floppy drive but no CD-ROM. And the only way I can attach a CD-ROM to it is through a usb port. I want to format away windows ME on it and do a fresh install. Now the question is, how do I boot from the usb CD-ROM or access the usb CD-ROM through a boot floppy?

Thanks

I know that mandrake has a bootfloppy image for installing from a USB cd-rom. There probably is one for your distro too. Maybe on the CDs or somewhere on the net.
