Blank screen on Compaq Armada E500
 

Hello everyone. I'm new to Linux and I recently installed Suse Linux 10 on my Compaq Armada E500 laptop. MS XP was previously installed but I didn't partition; I setup a fresh install so only Linux would run off it. Installation went fine but after rebooting and reaching the initial screen to login, my screen was blank. I could almost see the contents but it just was not showing correctly.
So I did some research and found that I needed to configure my xorg.conf file. I went ahead and logged into the console as the user "root" and proceeded to configure the xorg file by typing "xorgconfig." I was asked a series of questions (some of which I wasn't sure about) but I did find this page that had most of the correct selections: pd-dr-herrmann.de/linux.html
I saved the file and rebooted. I selected Linux as the O/S to startup and eventually got to the position where my screen was blank last time. But instead I started up in Linux console again and it asked me to login. So I did. I then tried typing "startx" but it failed to start and I'm in my console again. The error reads: "Fatal server error: no screens found." So it looks like my video card or settings are not setup correctly. Can anyone please help me with this?

By the way, there's also a message that says I can check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" but I wasn't able to open it from the console.

Just a quick update; I searched the forum and found another poster with the same problem and someone suggested running "xorgsetup"? I'd like to try this but I can't run it. Can I run this from the console?
