Black screen... Possibly Kernel problem?
Hi all. I posted this in question in the OS questions area before but as iv now discovered it isnt exclusive to backtrack, im posting here instead. I linked to this thread there as well so if mods could delete that thread that would be awesome.
Now the problem i was having was that after booting Backtrack 5 & BT 5 R1 i would see the splash screen and then the screen would go black, and not like blinking terminal plack as in OFF, but after i stuck a flashlight against the LCD i could see that the interface and gui were there, the LCD's backlight was simply off. I assumed that BT was responsible but now that i have tried Blackbuntu ubuntu 11.04, i have come to the conclusion that something must be wrong with the kernel, or at least it is no longer comaptible with my monitor for some reason. see i can run backtrack 4 r2 and i can run ubuntu 10.10 both of which use linux kernel 2.6.35 Backtrack 5 and ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 and blackbuntu all use kernel 2.6.38. Is it bossible that somewhere along something was removed from the kernel that is essential to my system running? I am posting this HERE because i am on a laptop. specifically an Acer Aspire 5734z and am having problems with the built-in monitor. -JL |
Are there hardware brightness controls (many laptops have them) and have you tried adjusting them?
If not, see whether you can disable them in the BIOS. |

aaliyahaash, it might be best to start your own thread, unless you are here just to spam for m3tube dot com.
Be sure to include the error messages you are getting. |
Black screen in Laptop.
Hi,
I bought a laptop yesterday and also got black screens... looking in Forums I found you. Also, I have a solution which is not nice but it works. After I boot linux, I press Fn+3 a few times (there is a sun symbol, may be another key for you). When you press it, the backlight will appear again. Hope this solves... but I want this to be automatic in init.d or xorg.conf, but have no knowledge... I'll post another issue for that. Quote:
