Black Screen after waking up from hibernation
Hi all,
I am currently running Kali 2020.1 on my Lenovo yoga 2 Pro. It runs pretty well, but I have an annoying issue, I don't know how to solve. I can boot and run Kali without issues, but when i lock or signout my user and log back in after some time, the display goes black. The cursor is still available and moves, but The desktop is staying black. When I press CTRL + F4 I am able to login via terminal, but I have no idea which service I have to restart, or to get back into my last session. I checked the logs and the only thing that seems suspicios, is x11 org makin trouble. Google couldn't help me yet, because most of the people had issues with nvidia cards, but I am using Intel. Here's a xorg.log.old (I think that has been generated, after my Notebook went black) Code:
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. |
Black Screen after waking up from hibernation
I just can see this
Code:
/dev/dri/card0: failed to set DRM interface version 1.4: Permission denied https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=206849 |
I now tried something else... I have to wait and see if that works.
Code:
vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/xorg.conf |
So unfortunately, it didn't work, but I got another error output. Seems like session is in use and I can't rejoin it.
Code:
Xsession: X session started for helios at Di 18. Feb 22:12:15 CET 2020 |

Separate to this, I would try flicking to a console (Ctrl_Alt_F4) and back to X (Alt_F7, or mebbe Alt_F<something>) and see if it's just a graphics issue. As for the permissions issue make sure your user and user sddm are in the video group. |

Today I had the black screen again. The Lockscreen works like its supposed to do. Logged in I tried several different key combinations in my hope to get the service restarted. Nothing happened. Maybe I didn't hit the right combo... Anyway I am always forced to enter the Terminal that has the annoying 3200x1800 resolution where I have to get really close to the display to read all stuff .. -.- Instead of restarting xorg, I tried to reenter my existing session. Everything was running in the background like firefox and stuff. First I tried this Code:
sudo xfce4-session --display=:0 Code:
xfwm4 --display=:0.0 --replace But what a surprise.. it didn't work. It had no error. If I remember right, it just couldn't close the window manager, because it was already in use. Seems like my system sometimes is not always realizing, that I am the user who signed in. I don't know if xfce4, xfwm4 or lightdm here are the issue. But these are the main parts I am currently taking a deeper look at. I've installed accountsservices for lightdm to see if that maybe helps... |
Code:
Feb 19 17:02:25 Minerva kernel: [14128.872094] Bluetooth: hci0: unexpected event for opcode 0xfc2f |
You did read the Sticky post on Kali Linux in the newbie forum, didn't you?

I dont think thats the problem. This UID belongs to lightdm.

Seems like I am not that wrong with my suggestion to lightdm. Had the black screen again and I tried to rejoin the session with xfwm4. Again I couldnt open the current session.
I didn't totally fix my problem, but I know that lightdm has a bit of a hickup. Code:
service lightdm restart edit: btw. I red the Kali newbie post. I am no newbie in terms of Kali. I am full aware of the risks. And I have been to the Kali.forum, but there u find no help. Well, I've opened there 4 Topics and none of them have been answered. This forum is better than kali. But I have to say, every issue I have with Kali, is similar to issues I would have with debian. |
It seems unusual that a switch of window manager would fix it.
