Hello odjb,
I'm not sure if the X-server is using the adequate module, it seems you're using a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, yould you please post this? Another thing you may try would be to rename the xorg.conf file to (for example) xorg.conf_bkp so that it can't be loaded, then restart the X-server. Maybe the X-server finds the settings by itself. The module for VGA controller is :
Code:
Kernel modules: i915 |
Yes, that is what it should use, but I thought to explore the xorg.conf file in order to look which module there is configured.

I have no xorg.conf.
Code:
odjb@RATM:~$ sudo find / -name xorg.conf sorry for the double. I didn't notice we had reached the page bottom |
From odjb's Xorg.0.log, I saw that X11 loaded the "Intel" driver (xserver-xorg-driver-intel).
|
mh, I thougth there had to be a driver "i915", but I was not sure if this has been loaded.

No i have a asus eee and I use the intel driver as well, and sorry odjb bout your problems. I ran into this once i had to manualy config my x-server.conf file though you said you dont have one which is troubling...
|
Well, normaly the xorg-settings are calculated by hal, so one does not need an xorg.conf file.
But if you create an xorg.conf file (in the /etc/X11 directory), this file will be sourced by the X-server. So you may create an xorg.conf file with only the driver settings. I'd suggest to read the manpage for xorg.conf Markus |
Hi,
I tried to create a Xorg.conf as follows but it completely screwed up the display. I Had to go back to console mode to remove it and remove the displays.xml too. What should I insert in Xorg.conf ? Code:
Section "Device" |
I found some help for you though it is for gentoo http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml it should still help because it helped me with a few problems. I would look down at the xorg.conf section. Hope I can help a bit.

I realize that you can login after unplugging the monitor. So this means, that the screenresolution is not adequate set, or not mechanically adapted respectively.
