Bicycling with laptop: 1)tough/rugged case/bag 2)Tips
I am looking on purchasing a laptop (probably a 15.4 inch widescreen Dell Inspiron 6000, or possibly a 17 inch Widescreen). My main mode of transportation is the bicycle.
I am looking on getting a case or bag that would fully protect the laptop from any bumps (e.g. when the bag on my back swings to one side and hits a pedestrian or a lamp-post/telephone post). and from any falls that I might take. I would like a heavy-duty case. Weight is no issue. If it's heavy, it's okay. I just want to protect the investment! Rainproof-ness is a welcome but not-absolutely-necessary thing. Do you know of any companies/stores that sell these? What would you recommend for the laptop-carrying bicyclist. Any advice or tips? I understand that this is not a linux-specific question, but I wasn't sure where else to post. If you know other forums/websites for these sort of questions, please let me know. Thank you! j |
Maybe the general forum of LQ would be a good place for this thread. Dunno if your gonna find a bag that will protect your laptop from hitting lamp posts. Pedestrians maybe, if you aim for the soft bits. :)

Here's my setup:
I have a Toshiba Satellite widescreen laptop and am an avid biker/jogger. I went to a Sports Store and bought a laptop backpack. In the backpack I place my mouse, paperwork, etc. Near my back, goes the notebook. I've had this setup for a year.. I bike over very bumpy roads and have actually lost my backpack once (no fault of the pack, but my own) and never had an issue. I'd start there. Office carry-ons are great for the average person, but anything more than that...and I'd look to an athletic store. |
