Best video card for a linux laptop
I'm in the market for a new laptop and wanted to know what might be the best video card to use. Before replying be aware of the following:
I'm not talking a high-end high priced video card, just a newer consumer type mobile video card.
I'm thinking about going with a Dell, either the Inspiron 5100, 5150, or 8600, because I can't afford any of the IBM's I really want.
I understand there have been problems with recent cards such as the Radeon 9600, but a lot of those now have solutions (albeit difficult?)
I was thinking about choosing from the following:
GeForce FX Go 5200
ATI Radeon Mobility 9600
ATI Radeon Mobility 9000
ATI Radeon Mobility 7500
I want a card that will be great for DVD playback and general XF86 use. The newest cards tend to have Windows advantages in DirectX which are applicable to Linux, but are some of these cards better on a linux laptop and worth paying for? I want to get a SXGA screen so I can do higher resolutions than 1024x760. And are there any other cards I should consider? And I'd rather not do integrated video (I'd prefer a agp card)
