Best/most compatible distribution for a Dell Latitude D600
I've been playing around with Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) on my Dell Latitude D600. For the most part it works OK, but there's a show-stopper for me. Basically the laptop hangs on boot 75% of the time if I try to boot when the machine's power is not plugged in. I had both Window 2000 and XP on the box and it did not exhibit this problem with those operating systems. Based on suggestions found on the Ubuntu Forums, I've turned off the parallel port in BIOS, but doing so does not make the problem any better. Does anybody know what's causing this to happen?
Alternatively, if I cannot fix this problem, can anybody suggest a Linux distribution which does not exhibit this problem on this model? Thanks! |

It may have a problem similar to my C600, something probes the PCMCIA bus in a way that it obviously doesn't like and it hard locks the system. I commented out the 0x800-0x8ff line in my /etc/pcmcia/config.opts, dunno if this will help you at all.
EDIT: I found some more specific info on the D600: Quote:
