Best laptop distro?

well i reciently ordered a laptop ... kinda older , but i think it will be a nice "mobile linux machine" i will mainly use it for irc, Gaim, checking e-mail, posting on forums, coding , etc. .... no gaming ... just kinda sumthing to be a mobile toy for when i am away from my beloved desktop .... now i know the linux world generally hates RedHat, but from what i have found it seems to have the best laptop support and i was curiouse of other peoples opinions of a good laptop distro ... possibly one they have had good experiences with

here's my lappy specs ...

IBM ThinkPad 600E
366Mhz Pentium II
160Mb ram
6Gig Hdd
2x PCMCIA
Internal 56K Modem
(i have a PCMCIA nic for it, and i did check www.linux-laptop.net for distro help and found that RedHat was the best for my laptop so far in my research)

all responses are greatly appreciated

p.s.- of course i will be running Fluxbox reguardless of distro do to sexah-ness and how light it is

what do you mean by black-balled?

As for your question, a little search in the forums will show that there are a few threads that discuss "the best laptop distro"

On your machine, most should run without a problem....

I think that mandrake 9.1 is the best distro for the 600e. The sound works and it is very easy to set up and use.

I agree with using Mandrake or possibly SUSE, then if you need acpi, I don't know if you will, you can just say use acpi it is already compiled into the kernel.

I'm using Mandrake 9.1 on a Dell Inspiron 2650, Pentium Celeron 1.6 ghz with 256 MB DDR RAM.
