Battery settings are stored in system or the battery firmware?

I am dual-booting on a Thinkpad T410 with Windows7 and Manjaro with a 55++ battery.
In Windows, I switch between "Always fully charge" and "Automatically optimize for battery lifespan" in Power Manager > Battery > Battery Maintenance, i rebooted in Linux and i think the settings are affecting Linux too.
So the question is: this settings are stored in system or the battery firmware?

I'd doubt it. When they say smart technology they may mean it in this case. Usually power is only part of the OS via acpi or other host level support.

At one time I had access to internal IBM people who would know for sure.

All of the PCs I've ever seen or worked on will have different battery settings in each OS. You should try changing the battery settings in linux and see if that changes the settings in windows or vice versa.

Meanwhile i found the answer. The values are stored in EEPROM on battery.
Tnx

Thanks for the update. They do infact mean smart battery then. "When they say smart technology they may mean it in this case. "
