I have an older laptop with APM. So I just use the wmapm slit app. I don't know if your uses apm or acpi. But just compile the respective power management module into the kernel, like for me; APM. Now visit www.dockapps.org and serach for something that'll display your battery level. There are quite a few on there that display the "monitor" using ACPI and a few that use APM. You can really use any program that'll montiro battery usage though. If you have acpi and compiled support into your kernel you should just look for an battery monitor with acpi support, and it should read it automatically. Same with apm. You have to have the /proc file system though. All these program really do is just make the output from the /proc/apm more readable.. (and /proc/acpi?? I haven't had experience with acpi)

The kernel has had acpi support for quite some time. Just recompile it.

Hi I just installed this and everything seemed to install correctly except that it says No APM support in kernel. I am running a Dell Inspiron 1100. I am brand new to Linux can someone help me in a very lucid manner?
Thanks,
Chris
