battery issue
 

i'm new at this, but i don't know how to display battery info about my laptop. I hear i need acpi or something...do i need to recompile my kernel or get a module to load in my kernel.


or show i post dmesg???? thanks for the help

i was wondering the same thing, except im using mandrake.

i think i'm going to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel and just add acpi.

but let me take a look at your dmesg, i wanna see if im gettign the same errors

well, on the gnome thinger all i had to do was right click the panel, add, utility, battery moniter, and it worked fine for me.

I get the following message when i try to run the LAPTOP BATTERY utility:

"Your computer doesn't have the Linux APM (Advanced Power Management) or ACPI software installed, or doesn't have the APM kernel drivers installed - check out the Linux Laptop-HOWTO document for information on how to install APM."

The how to documentation is online and the url is no longer vailid.

apm is the older verison for battery and power mang. control. what you should get is acpi. I'm not sure but you might be able to load the acpi module into the kernel with modprobe acpi. However, if that doesn't work, you can always try to recompile your kernel or even upgrade to a different kernel and just include the acpi into the kernel.
