Backlight Control and Brightness after setting intel_reg_write

Hello,
On my Asus UX31a laptop I have set a higher screen refresh rate with intel_reg_write according to this.

I works fine, though the overall brightness is higher.

I have 10 steps for my brightness control:
Code:
$ cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness
10
However, the highest three steps are all displaying the brightest screen, and the lowest one is not dark enough (for my eyes).
As I can set the screen brightness lower with this:
Code:
echo 10 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
I am wondering, is there a way to adjust the 10 steps, to be able to set the screen dark enough through the Fn-Keys?

I hope I made myself clear!

B

I know my Fn key is obsolet it doesn't register a signal

showkey program tells what keycode for each key -- see if your Fn key is showing up, maybe good idea ---

Hello,

I created a file
Quote:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
as suggested here.

Now using xbacklight I am able to set any brightness I want, but the fn keys still use the old method. I am able to assign commands to them which they execute, but they also always set the brightness.
Any ideas?

I wrote a simple script to just max it out on my laptop

Code:
#!/bin/bash
sudo tee  /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0/brightness <<< 255  255
you might do the same only set it for 10 incuments instead, or expement by typing in a number untill you find the brightness that you like then set it to that then just run it off the command line
