Backing up Nokia 8310 phone

I am running Mandrake 10 on my Dell inspiron 4100 laptop, and have recently "aquired" a Nokia 8310 mobile phone. I am looking to find a way of backing up data in the phone to my laptop - things like phone numbers, the calendar, to-do list etc. (I am not interested in using the phone as a modem or anything like that.)

The laptop has an infra-red port and so does the phone, but I have no idea whether the infra-red port even works under linux (since I've never had anything to point at it until now!) I would be quite happy to use a cable if only I knew what to buy - I'm not even sure if the phone has a data socket - all I can see is the socket for the charger and for the headphones/headset.

By now you can probably tell how clueless I am... can anyone give me some ideas as to where to start?!

Many thanks in advance.

There is a nifty little program called gnokii and xgnokii (iirc) which I used to get me laptop to talk to my nokia 8250

Sorry I don't have a link to it, Google should help.
