audio on laptop using slack

Hello,

I am having problems getting my audio to work. I have a generic laptop from pricewatch, slackware 9.0 (but most packages upgraded), kernel version is 2.6.1.

When I log into windows.. the audio card shows as a legacy... so I am stumped on what I need to do to get the audio to work in slack... any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

type in lspci as root, and see what it says for the audio controller. then try to setup alsa for it.
