atombios stuck in loop for more than 5 seconds - Ubuntu installation error
Hi,
I have an HP G62 laptop. Its graphical card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 545v. Windows 8 is the Operating System which is running on it. I have a BIOS firmware and not a UEFI.
- Downloading the Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS iso
- Making an Ubuntu bootable USB key with Universal USB Installer
- Desactivating the fastboot mode on Windows 8
- Shrinking the C drive to make some free space for Ubuntu
- Changing the BIOS configuration in order to boot from the Ubuntu bootable USB key
I do not have the secureboot mode because I have a BIOS and not a UEFI.
When I booted from the Ubuntu USB key, the installation screen appeared.
Then I clicked on the "Install Ubuntu" option and then the following errors started appearing:
[drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5 seconds
[drm:atom_execute_table_locked] *ERROR* atombios stuck executing E046
it appears that you have to blacklist one of the 2 cards (if that is the case in your laptop) - most probably the high-performance card.
maybe you can also achieve something through a bios setting (like "deactivate radeon card during boot" maybe?).
if you need further assistance, tell us what you tried in as much detail as possible, plus the output of
Code:
lspci -k
Firstly, I want to thank you for your answer.
My BIOS does not allow me to desactivate the radeon card during boot because it does not have this option.
I also have one question. How can I get the Linux terminal during the Ubuntu installation ? Because after showing the errors I mentioned before, the screen freezes...
i thought you don't click on "Install Ubuntu", but on "Try Ubuntu (without installing)".
In any case, if you get stuck, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2 and see if that brings you to a login prompt.
Or, boot straight into recovery mode (it may be called differently, but it's definitely an option in the first boot menu).

Here you have the lspci -k command result as you have asked:

you have indeed two graphic cards in there (both radeon).
did you read the 2 links i gave you and tried to troubleshoot the problem further, including blacklisting (which is a linux thing, not bios)?
your first step is probably to figure out how to get to a text console during install.
or maybe you have to add some kernel parameter that disables graphics during install. search 'nomodeset'.
play with the boot menu when booting the live disk, there should be some option there, like "failsafe" and whatnot.
Why were you following that link, you said you don't have UEFI.
I have an HP G62 that I have put several Debian based systems on, (prior to systemd), with no problems at all.
I, personally don't like Ubuntu, so have not tried it, but the problem may be a bad download, did you check it?
Hi Fatmac,
Thank you very much for your answer.
Well, I suppose that the no-UEFI installation is similar to the UEFI installation. Consequently, I followed the tutorial.
I checked the integrity of the USB Ubuntu device and I did not find problems.
David_Dev, if i were you i'd try a few other distros, maybe they just work.
if you continue seeing this error message, then i guess you are affected by this problem/bug that i linked earlier, and there's probably no "easy way". on first glance, there seem to be workarounds. consider it a gift: you can start learning linux from the ground up.
@fatmac et al.: i searched this hp g62 model yesterday, and there seem to be many different submodels; some have plain intel onboard graphics, some have intel/radeon, and some even seem to have 2 radeon cards/chips?

I gonna try to deactivate one of the two graphic cards as you suggest.
You are right, I've just tried to install Ubuntu 10.04.3 and it works !!! I only have one problem with my Wifi card. In fact, I am not able to get my laptop connected to the wifi and I don't understand why.
Ubuntu 10.04? are you sure? because i'm pretty sure that's long outdated, end of life. according to this list you should choose at least12.04. LTS.
chances are that will also solve your wireless problems.
if not, start a new thread for that.
