Unhappy Ati Mobility radeon 9600 driver for Linux not found!

Hello, I got a new laptop fujitsu with a graphic card ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 and i installed Linux Slackware 9.1 because i use it always, the DRI driver doesnt work, I will not buy a comercial driver and the ATI drivers come on a RPM format so is not possible to install them on Slackware.

Also i tryed installing the ATI rpm drivers for this card on redhat 9 and Fedora core 1 but the 3D performace is so poor cause maybe this driver is not for the Mobility card.

So after searching on the net and asking i dont find any driver i can use for my computer and i really need it cause i use a lot of 3d software in Linux for my work.

I would appreaciate any help!!

Please have a look at the following forum. You'll find several important facts about where to find the ATI driver, how to install them and some "modeline" solutions:

I tried the link above, but apparently it's too old and doesn't go anywhere. Is there any where that I can find that info.

I have a ATI mobility 9600 M10 as well. Sitch, did you ever get your dual head working? If so, what did you do?

I am running Suse 9.2 pro on a centrino 2.0 GHz pentium M (prostar/mtech laptop, model m375e, I think). I can't get dual head working. Also, I can't get my laptop screen (15.4" wxga) to work if the computer is started with an external monitor attached. I have to boot up without the external monitor, then after I log in to X, I can plug the other monitor in, but it only clones the laptop monitor ... and at the same resolution, 1280x800, instead of 1280x1024. I have tried to change the settings in Yast, but I think the problem is with my driver ... could be wrong though.

Would appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks

Outdated link

Hi,

just go to the dell laptop forum and search for "XFree86" and "Mobility Radeon 9600" and you will find the link. The dell people just seem to have changed the numbering but the postings should be still there.
