i hv an asus u30jc notebook. ubuntu 11.04 instales ok. but when it reboots i cannot see anything. just black void. i hv tried everything possible. even tried bumblebee. with this web (http://soldant.wordpress.com/2011/07...-ubuntu-11-04/) suggestion. still no go. any help will be much appreciated.
Is Ubuntu 11.04 the only operating system?
Did the installation complete successfully? Did you get a message telling you so and asking you to reboot and remove the installation CD?
During the installation, did you select where to install the Grub bootloader? Did you accept the defaults? Do you have only one hard drive?

i can boot to safe mode. i also can go to command prompt.
Next step, boot the Ubuntu CD and when you get to the Desktop, click the Applications tab and find Terminal. Click it to open the terminal and enter this command to get partition information to post: sudo fdisk -l (lower case Letter L in the command).
Do you know how to mount partitions and navigate in the terminal?
though i am not a master of linux but i surely can mount partitions and navigate terminal. thank you. funny thing is i hv installed linux mint 11 in my acer ferrari one 200 netbook. no problemo. then intalled suse 11.4 in my hp probook 17.3". everything fine. i work at both environments. quite fluently. thats why all my machines are dual booted. i installed ubuntu 11.04 3 times already. same result. though i hv not tried other distributions. but thanks for help guys. hope this helps.
You have three Linux partitions and sda5 looks like a boot partition. Do you remember if you created a separate boot partition? I haven't installed 11.04 so don't know what the defaults are. Anyhow, if it is, mount that partition and check to see if you have a grub.cfg file in the /boot/grub directory and post the contents.
I'm wondering if it might be a graphics card issue. You could open a terminal and run this command to get info: lspci | grep -i vga
Of course if it works from the Live CD, it should work installed.
