Okay, I'm back for more.

When I execute the command, there's a long pause after the second screen (DSCN5071) and then it does not wait but goes on to the third screen. I do not know if it means anything, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Well. Hook up a Hard line because you are not connected to the internet.

Betcha a shiners beer that if you hook up hard line. Reboot. Those commands will work.

Edit: scratch that bet. If your ISP server is hinky to your router. That takes a phone call or a router reboot to fix.

*Nothing* is resolving. Either you're not connected to the internet or your name resolution needs changing.

Could you try the following command and let me know what happens:

Code:
ping 8.8.8.8

I typed in the command and it keeps on saying

Code:
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time= 11.5 ms
The seq=1 increases with 1 every time, the time varies. It has now stopped at seq=191 but no command prompt line yet, cursor is blinking

Thanks. Hit ctrl-c if that cursor is still blinking with no command line prompt. Now:

Code:
ping google.com

Code:
64 bytes from ams16s30-in-f78.1e100.net (172.217.17.78): icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time= 11.5 ms
Same as before seq increases, time varies, it is now at 240 and stil going on

Ok. Hit ctrl-c again to interrupt that command.

Unusual. Ok, two more commands.

Let's check that the name resolves for one of the repos that produced an error when you tried to update:

Code:
ping archive.canonical.com
Then, let's have a look at which nameservers you are using:

Code:
cat /etc/resolv.conf

The first one results in

Code:
64 bytes from kudan.canonical.com (91.189.92.150): icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time= 11.5 ms
Etc. etc.

Stopped that one with ctrl-c and the second one give me

Code:
#Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.1.1

nameserver 127.0.1.1
