AST laptop Windows 3.1 linux..unix?

ok i have an old AST laptop. its really old (windows 3.1) and does not have a CD drive or network adapter. i would like to put either Linux or just a text linux/unix on it with a word processor. because the windows 3.1 on it has some(MANY) errors on it and crashes often. i dont know much about the subject. i know some unix command line and have a book telling EVERYTHING about it.

any ideas about how to go about doing this would be extremely helpful.

thank you for any and all help.

Check Slackware for version 7 or 8 floppy installs. Debian likewise may have floppy install version. Maybe PCDos or FreeDos or Caldera Dos or similar is more to your liking. Good luck.
