Thumbs up yes, possible, but not too useful last time I looked

Hi,

Yes, LINUX can indeed be installed onto a Palm handheld. Believe
it or not, you use your desktop machine as a dumb terminal over
the serial line, as the console!

I checked it out about a year ago, and at that time it was very
immature, and did not have a screen driver yet.

Check out http://palm-linux.sourceforge.net/ I see there has
been some activity, somewhat recently...

From that Palm Linux page it appears they're working on getting kernel 2.0.39 running. I doubt there's as much activity in the Linux-on-Palm arena as for some other handhelds. Specifically the Sharp Zaurus and similar ARM-based machines.

http://www.zaurus.com/

Some Zaurus resources:

http://www.openzaurus.org/
http://www.zaurusoft.com/
http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/

I can SSH into and SCP from/to my Zaurus, view/edit MS Word and Excel documents, browse the web, etc.. There are Nintendo and Gameboy emulators and even an Atari-ST emulator I just recently saw an announcement for. MP3/OGG players, MPEG/DIVX video playback, etc... Very cool to have this much power in a shirt pocket!
