ALPS touchpad: EVEREX laptop 2.6.9RH
I just got an EVEREX laptop.
I installed RH EL4.
The laptop has an ALPS touchpad, which works fine in windows XP (the machine is a dual boot).

When installing Linux, it does not find the touchpad.

It is not listed in /proc/bus/input/devices - No mouse is listed at all.

I installed tpconfig and I run it on startup before gpm. It seems to do nothing. What driver or device is tpconfig (v3..) is supposed to load?

No luck!

The full kernel is: 2.6.9-

Do I need a kernel patch?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You need the Synaptics TouchPad driver to get it working.

Thank you for your response.
Yesterday, I figure that out.
I downloaded the Synaptics driver - it comes with a kernel patch alps.patch that you need for kernels < 2.6.11 (I am on 2.6.9).

I decided not to do it.
I just went to the BIOS and DISABLED the legacy USB support, and suddenly the touchpad was functioning.
X just assumes it ia a regular ps/2 mouse, I assume.

I may decide to use the driver, but for now, I will keep it this way.
