Question agere momem on ibm r40

i installed smatlink driver on my r40 ibm to make my modem work.
Now inn /etc/ appears the logical link everytime i launch the smartlink bin.
But (there is always a "but"....) when i try to set the right modem driver in kppp dialog windows i don't find it.
I guess there have to be a conf file to change but i don't know which...
Thak for every suggestion...

PS.
I guess the ibm policies to sustain linux is misterious like God plan for mankind!
