Advice OS for Asus EeePC 900 1gb RAM

The problem is that the slot for the 16 GB SSD is damaged and there is only 4gb of drive space available. I put all personal date on a SD card. I need to install a new OS, preferably Ubuntu/Debian based that will work with such limited resources. I am happy with something like xfce if there is not enough power for the latest Ubuntu.

The machine is only used for access to the internet while traveling plus watching the occasional movie and maybe doing some basic picture sorting.

Advice please.

I would try Slackware without KDE, Vector, Zenwalk, ... . If you like Ubumtu may be you should try Xubuntu or Lubuntu. It should noz be the power of your CPU or the RAM that limits you, it should be the disk space.

Great thanks, I am installing Lubuntu now. I had not heard of that, it sounds just the job.

Thanks but no thanks for the Slackware suggestion I don't want to start a distro war but its reputation has put me off, I do not want a new way of life just a small cheap computer to take on my travels.
