Advent 9115, Latest Kubuntu and Vista. Won't load installer.
I own an Advent 9115. The specifications of which are:
Intel Pentium Dual Core T2310, (1.46 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache) Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium 120GB Hard Drive 2 GB Ram SiS672 Chipset I currently have Windows Vista installed and have managed to set up Kubuntu on VMware. Mainly because I'm fed up of trying to get any distro to install on a seperate partition from windows. I have no problems setting up my partition, the problems arise when I try and install. I have tried using several distributions including openSUSE 10.3 (and 10.2), Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Madriva 2007 etc etc. Generally once I chose to install the installer will load so far then just hang up, after a minute or two I can hear the CD stop running. I'm new-ish to linux, despite this I can manage to install it (on a non-hostile system). My BIOS is PhoenixBIOS. Below are a list of (what I believe to be) the relevant settings. * Main * System Memory: 640 MB Extended Memory: 1920 MB * Info * BIOS Version: 1.07 EC Version: 1.06 * Advanced * Execute Disable Bit: Enabled * Power * LCD Panel Power Saver: Disabled * Boot * LAN Remote Boot: Disabled I have tried booting with ACPI disabled, this stops the installer loading at all. Can anyone help me on this one? |
Can you try kubuntu _alternate_ installer CD (kinda text mode)
Or in opensuse press F3 and install in text mode. I have previously had poor compatibility of SiS chipsets and linux. |
I started this thread around a week ago, I don't know why but it only appeared recently. There is another thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...t-9115-626427/
That is also open, it might have some other details. Tried the xubuntu alternate installer (it too failed). I tried installing with boot options noapci and noauto. Hangs right after displaying "Starting system dog daemon: syslogd, klogd". |
