ACPI troubles

I have a nice Compaq n400c laptop. The fan turn itself of during boot, only in linux, not windows. Googled it and found a rather crude and complicated solution that makes the fan to spin constantly. Not good! Anyone that has a better solution? Currently running kernel 2.6.8-13 and Debian Sarge.

I'd rather the fan spin all the time than not at all, but I understand the power consumption could drain battery a little faster.

Is your kernel configured with ACPI support?

What does this have to do with wireless (in your title)?
