hey jerit, one way of getting rid of acpi or to turn it on is to re-compile the kernel, in the process when you do the menuconfig portion their is an option to use acpi, or turn it off......just wanna be sure you BIOS supports this option.

You can check outacpi.sourceforge.net for info on acpi.

What distro and kernel are you using?

You could look in your bios setup (press del or F10 at bootup usually) and check if there are any acpi settings (if there are none you may still need to use acpi).

Also check your motherboard and cpu at the vendors site and see if that teaches you anything.

If your computer is fairly new it will probably use acpi (especially laptops).
