You will have to take a look in your /boot/grub/grub.conf.

See if at the end of the line kernel /vmlinuz* where the * is your kernel # and add at the end of this line acpi=on should be there if not then add it in using your favorite text editor.

You will then need to re-boot now your acpi should be enabled then if you are using gnome which is the Fedora default DM, right click on an empty part of the panel

add to panel --> utility --> battery charge monitor. Now you should see a battery charge icon.

Let us know how it goes

If you use lilo, go to you /etc/lilo.conf and add the "acpi=on" too append=
Then run (as root) "lilo" and restart.

P.S. to make sure its working type "acpi -V" (without quotations. of course)
and it will show battery level, charging, and tempature : )

Men .... thank you for posting this here... I had the same problem in my laptop (fujitsu-siemens) the fan ha sjust going crazy ... arghhhhhhhhh.
I have fedora on my desktop, and the typical instalation didn't give me half the thing I needed, so for the laptop, I used the custom config. When every thing was running I notice, no acpi .. .hooo my god ... I thought I miss some packged, no just one line on the grub ... lol ...

Thanks for the help ...
