acpi & kernel 2.4.25

I have recently upgraded to the new 2.4.25 kernel and included acpi support when compiling. My Laptop is a Compaq Presario 2548EA. I was beginning to configure the acpi to try and set up the hibernate function etc. when I came across http:/acpi.sourceforge.net/ which has a patch for the kernel. Has anyone applied this patch and would you advise it.

Thanks.
