Unhappy Acer tm2303wlmi i855.SuSe9.2. 1280x800 doesn't work!

Hi, everybody,

Spent the whole day searching in forums and editing X config (xorg 6.8..). Useless!
As I see, the problem is quite common for WXGA screens. Many people asked for a help, many say they've solved the problem. Forums are full with listings of xfree86config-4 and selected modelines 1280x800... Am I stupid? Why doesn't it work for me?
Well, if you have an idea ... please let me know.
Here is a quotation from my XF86config:

SuSE 9.2 pro is fresh updated with all the recommended patches.
BTW, SaX2 autoprobe gives VESA, not LCD, but VESA doesn't have 1280x800 at all....
In KDE and GNOME the screen size applet shows 1024x768@0(zero)Hz, the mode not listed above, and doesn't offer anything higher.
My videosystem shares memory with ram (currently 16Mb). Should there be a line in the config file about this?
Any help will be appreciated

Hiya,

You're not stupid. Just not informed. You can't change the config's by hand, because sax2 overwrites them. Actually, you can change the config's by hand, and sax2 will still overwrite them.

You should configure the card/video at init 3. Then type sax2 and change the configuration. It would also help if you told us the hardware that you are attempting to make work. Please list your full hardware spec's. Keep in mind that this isn't the psychic hotline.

try searching for a program called "855resolution" that might help if you have that gfx card. And make sure you flash the bios to the newest version first. And yes you can edit the xorg.config and it not be overwritten...on my system

Smile Thanks, guys! It works!

Thanks, thanks.

I've found already that magic program 855resolution, wrote a script, made it run automatically ...

Now it works at 1280x800!

BTW0, I didn't do anything to BIOS. My video bios has a higher version than 855resolution was written for, but it works.
BTW1, SAX2 doesn't overwrite manually edited xf86config in my system.
