Don't know about the script.
But I don't think it has something to do with the errormessage.

But why do you untar the tar file everytime you want to run it?
Also, aren't there some readme files in the archive?
Try to read them.

OK, here an extract how to use fancontrol:
(took me 10 sec on google)

To use it:
- Unpack with tar
- Adjust tunable parameters in acer5720_fancontrol.sh to your taste.

Copy mempat and acer5720_fancontrol.sh somewhere convenient, bearing in mind
that acer5720_fancontrol.sh needs to find mempat in its PATH.

I would suggest /usr/local/bin/

Arrange for acer5720_fancontrol.sh to be executed at start-up, eg. (as on my
Ubuntu) kicking it off in the background from /etc/rc.local.

First make sure they are executable
Code:
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/acer_fancontrol
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/mempat
now type
Code:
sudo /usr/local/bin/acer_fancontrol
If everything works ok,
do the following

Code:
sudo gedit /etc/rc.local
and add the following line at the bottom of the file

Code:
/usr/local/bin/acer_fancontrol
reboot and see if it works.

are you sure the changes you made in acer_fancontrol are correct?

You did
Code:
PATCH_ADDRESS=x1F6BCEAF
and the error is
Code:
Failed to map length 2 at address 1f6bceaf error 29
So make sure to take the correct patch_address
