Acer aspire one netbook newcomer

Hi, everyone!
I have just bought an Acer Aspire netbook which runs on Linux.
I've managed to load Skype... but am NOT computer clever. Has anyone advice about anything I should be doing to make everything work better/safer? How or where do I keep my eyes/ears open to be aware of new "essentials" (like the arrival of a need to get antispyware &/or antivirus programs), please?

first don`t worry about viruses because no viruses are in linux, see this link you can find all related about installing softwares on aspireone
