acer aspire E3 112 - USB Kali live boot

Hi,

I have a Acer Aspire E3 112 Intel Celeron N2840 with Intel HD Graphics running Windows 7, I want to be able to run kali Linux from USB in Live mode for Pen testing but when Kali boots up it goes to a black screen with a small timer symbol in the bottom right corner.

Can anyone advise to a fix for this, as I am at a complete loss at the moment.

Thanks in advanced

Are you getting grub menu?
If so go to Advanced Options & boot to recovery mode.

Hi thanks for the reply, I get the boot menu with the options of Live (amd64) Live (amd64 failsafe) Live (forensic mode) Live USB Persistence, Live USB Encryted Install Graphical Install Advanced Options (but no recovery or safe mode)

The laptop runs Windows 7 but I want the option to run a live version of Kali booting from USB, with this not working I wonder if a dual boot option off the harddrive may solve this problem.

Did you try the failsafe mode?

i hear that kali is not supposed to be installed to hd, and running it from usb (with persistence iirc) is the recommended way.

btw, i wonder what that little timer symbol in the bottom right corner is...

Kali only has a few uses
installing to a laptop and used for wifi testing
or
as above on an encrypted usb for "covert" use

live cd on any computer ( read as " covertly in a office -- not yours")

now
if you are hired to do this it is all LEGAL
but you have to be in the employ of the businesses you are "cracking"

so

with things being in the gray legal area ???????

and the rules of the site forbid "cracking" and such

proving one is legally allowed to do such things is a bit difficult

but having to ask for help on normal every day use ... says a few things

register on the kaliforum
http://forums.kali.org/
-- of note-- apparently a lot of people have problems registering and loging in , think of it as a test .
