Acer Aspire 5570Z

Just bought my first laptop.Tried a few live cd to see if i could wireless working...no luck.

My Acer Aspire 5570Z has a Atheros AR5007EG wireless adapter.

Any luck with setting this up ? I plan to install kubuntu 7.04

I check the madwifi site i dont think ar5007eg is supported.

Do i have to use a usb wifi or a wifi card that is supported any suggestion.

I am running wpa.

Hi - I just got an Acer 5100-5033 and have the same AR5007EG network card, and cannot get madwifi to grok it. Anyone know of workarounds? Will ndiswrapper work?

chief_officer 06-10-2007 01:19 PM

I have the same problem. For about a month I am trying to get the wireless work. My thread is:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=559928

I have posted to madwifi without any outcome.

@ronware: There are many people out there who could not get this wireless card work with ndiswrapper. It seems to me that Acer somehow scrumbled with this card and it couldn't be run with the manufacturer's driver.

Meantime, the chipset is actually AR5BXB63. This seems to be the newest model, so madwifi guys could not find any solution.

My last chance is that I will replace the Atheros mini-pci with Intel 2200a/b/g or Pro3945. I have spoken with Acer's help desk in Turkey and learnt that Intel 2200 costs USD 54 + VAT [18% here].

Please let me know if you can find a solution.

Regards.

It's pretty disappointing, but I think I'm going to get some other card to replace the Atheros. I actually get the madwifi drivers to say "Hardware didn't respond as expected", and they want to tell me there is an IRQ problem or something - but I haven't found any kernel boot options or anything else to help me. In the meantime I'm using an old Lucent PCMCIA card which works fine (but 11Mbs instead of 54).

Acer laptop

I have an Acer Aspire 9301 which I think has the same Atheros wifi.

I installed 7.04, connected to my router with the cat5 cable, downloaded all the updates and installed them. I am typing this on 7.04 wireless. My nvidia graphics card appears to be supported aswell.

Not sure about the Bison camera on the top of the display.

Regards
Tim

May be an off-topic answer but: I have taken my laptop to Acer and told them that they were selling the notebook preinstalled with Linpus Linux [despite no X installed] and they are installing some hardware which is not supported by the operating system they installed and that they are not providing any drivers to get it to work.

They have replaced the Atheros cards with Intel 3945 with a note "changed Atheros to Intel for customer satisfaction".

If you have some Linux pre-installed Acer, you can try that.

@chief_officer: I have an Acer 5100-5033. How is the Intel card working for you? Vista works fine with the card they shipped in the machine, so I don't think Acer would replace the card for another one.

chief_officer 06-18-2007 12:41 PM

@ronware: As I said, my notebook came with Linpus Linux installed, not Vista. I told them that what they have inside as hardware is not supported by the os they have shipped. I think this sounded ok for them.

ronware 06-18-2007 12:49 PM

Ah, well. I ordered an Intel 3945 yesterday, I'll post here how well it works once I get it.

ronware 06-29-2007 06:34 PM

So I got the Intel card, and installed it. But the laptop would *not* boot with that card in place (rather suspicious, eh Acer?).

I tried updating the madwifi drivers again, to no avail. However, I *did* manage to get the ndiswrapper to load some Windows drivers - and it works!

It works!!! :)

For anyone interested, you can read all about my issues getting Linux running on the Aspire 5100-5033. It's now working very well, except for a couple irritating things (resume doesn't resume ndiswrapper, for example; and the card reader doesn't).

d-link WUA-2340/d-link WNA-1330/netgear WG511TNA

I am running fiesty on my Acer Aspire 5570Z .Had wifi working with a d-link WUA -2340 using the xp driver with ndiswrapper, with wpa enabled.

Just purschase a d-link wna-1330 and a netgear wg511na pcmia cards. Both are recongnise by the linux driver.

I can connect to one of the many open ap in my area. Can not connect to my router even when i turn off wpa.

I was able to connect to all including my ap with wpa using the usb adapter wua-2330 and ndiswrapper.

I tried sabayon 3.3 live works fine open ap and wpa enabled.

Then tried Ulti Ubuntu live works fine .

Is there a known bug in fiesty that is the cause ?.If i am able to connect to one of the ap but not the others is this a channel problem ?If so how do i set the channel.

Note that i have complete remove the ndiswrapper module and the etc file .

Help would like to use the MadWifi open source driver for AR5212 Chipset

this worked for my 5570z

Here are instructions; they require an active internet connection, so walk your computer over to the router and hook up the ethernet. Open a terminal and do these commands, each in order and in turn.
Code:

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic
wget http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi...current.tar.gz
tar zxvf madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-current.tar.gz
cd madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6-r3835-20080801/

The file name will change as the current build changes. Just watch what the file is that is extracted.
Code:

make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe ath_pci
sudo reboot

Your wireless should now be alive
