Acer Aspire 5504WXMi on Knoppix (or the other way round?)

I'm having a problem with Knoppix on my laptop.

Hardware:
Intel Pentium M 760 (2GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache)
14.1" WXGA (1280x800) LCD
1GB DDR2 PC4300 SDRAM
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 64MB VRAM
100GB ATA/100 HDD
MATSHITA UJ845D

When I try to load with "Knoppix screen=1280x800", the screen goes black. When I load with "failsafe", it goes to loading the XFree stuff, then cannot find a proper configuration.

Can anybody help?

Install to disk, i use slackware 10.2 and have Aspire 5503 WXMi
You may be able to get into knoppix in text mode if you pass init 3 to the kernel, not sure if you can do a text install to disk with knoppix, I have never tried that distro.

Intel Pentium M (1.83GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache)
14.1" WXGA (1280x800) LCD
512MB DDR2
ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 64MB VRAM
80GB ATA/100 HDD
MATSHITA UJ845D

download ati driver from their web site, install the driver, make sure you have tmpfs setup in your fstab to get hardware acceleration working, You may have to recompile kernel as well (I did, to get tmpfs working and remove other ati drivers from the kernel). Will get x working without accel if you don't have tmpfs setup or don't recompile your kernel.

download intels driver to get your wifi working.
