Hi...I am also having d same laptop.
Early i faced d same problems in sound card. The problem is solved.
For sound :: In my blog, i have mentioned abt how to install ALSA in Ubuntu 7.10. Go thr it,
For Vedio :: Install Ubuntu 7.10. Initially, it will not install d driver for nVidia Geforce (Hope urs is Geforce). Once you installed the Ubuntu, go to package manager and search nvidia. Install all the GLX. You will get installed all the nvidia drivers for your graphics card...
For network:: go thr this link. Ubuntu automatically detected my network card and by default its working fine in my lapy...

i use the same laptop with mandriva free 2008.0 64 bit. i use ndiswrapper with xp64 driver for atheros wifi card (i cant use madwifi, dont know why). vga card (gforce 7000m) updated with nvidia 169.kernel patch from mdv repos so i can run compiz (3d desktop). i also need to upgrade kernel with kernel from MDE ( because kernel or from mdv gave random hangs when booting. sound works by simply type ¨options snd_hda_intel model=acer¨ (without ¨¨) in /etc/modprobe.conf. lan card works straight away, it list in on top of /etc/modprobe.conf as ¨alias eth0 forcedeth¨ (again without ¨¨ :-)). the only problem so far i found is with suspends (Fn+F4 or from powersave menu), it sleeps but will not wake up; closing the lid will bring to suspend and wakes up when reopen it. same problems found with (K)Ubuntu 7.10 x64 and Suse 10.3 x64 for kernel, sound and suspend. i only tested the x64 version of the distros. never tested Fedora, sorry. havent check the modem and connection to external monitor. hope this info helps you.

I am successfully running Linux Mint on 4520. However if you want Ubuntu with all the drivers working including nVidia restricted drivers then you should look here & for wireless look here.
