I'v just installed FC4 in this laptop and to get it to work i had to add acpi=off in the kernel line in grub.conf, with that taking care of i'v just found out that i had no sound....
When i go to Soundcard Detection in gnome i get :
Vendor: Intel
Model: Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller
Module: snd-intel8x0

when i try (Play test sound) it does noghting and just crash ... i have to close the window and then i have to force quit.

Can someone help?

Same laptop but FC3 - i have had all sorts of problems, but eventualy i have installed it ok.

i belive you will have nothing but problems with acpi=off - yes, for me touchpad worked with acpi=off, bot wireless card did not - and that is something i couldn't live without.

- i was using latest Fedora update kernel, patched with custom DSDT - this allowed battery meter to work fine.
- boot without acpi=off - (acpi should be on , else i get IRQ disabled for both ipw2200 and soundcard)
- to force touchpad to work had to run: echo -n "psmouse" > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio0/drvctl
