Acer Aspire 1690 Screen Resolution
 

I just bought an Acer Aspire 1690.
I installed Fedora Core 4 today, but when I try to configure my monitor whatever I choose, X gives an error, and resets the setting back to default.
On the Acer site it says I have this monitor:

15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite colour TFT LCD
with 1280 × 800 pixel resolution; 16:10 viewing ratio

But there is no such thing in the config menu list.
Also, my videocard isn't listed either...
I have a ATI Radeon Mobility X700 (the X600 is listed, but mine isn't)

Can you please help me? I have a widescreen, and 800*600 on a widescreen gets streched all over, and hurts my eyes.
So I would like to put it to 1280*800 or something, but if I try another screen hardware profile X crashes.

Since your video card and monitor aren't being detected, you are only able to choose low colors and low resolutions. If you choose any resolutions higher than what the video card can handle with the driver it has, it causes hardware problems, which in turn, can cause your system or certain programs to lock up. It's probably a driver problem. Go to https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedo.../msg00598.html This person had a similar problem to yours and there is a link to a website with a suitable driver for your video card posted. Installing a newer driver most of the time will solve this kind of problem.

I found a Linux Driver package for MOBILITY cards!
It automaticly installed itself, I found a xorg.conf spicificly for my laptop, I used that.
And everything works perfect now :)
