Acer AO751h - poulsbo - liveusb that will complete boot/install?
Hi Guys,
My friend has a Acer AO751h-52bk(ZA3) with the cursed poulsbo Intel VGA chipset, and I'm looking for an up-to-date LiveCD/usb that can boot this to the desktop without a glitch and install and work - without jumping through too many hoops.
Or a list of boot parameters to add to Ubuntu 16.04 32bit LiveUSB.
I were trying the tips on the ubuntu help page for 14.04 but never got further than kernel panic.
It doesn't have to be Ubuntu, but I do prefer it as thats what I run myself.
Linux Mint (Ubuntu based) should boot up to a desktop environment for you so you can try it and than you can install it.
Should work right out of the box:-
not sure about the exact model number, but according to this - 2009.
most of the info on the poulsbo driver is outdated, but you quickly get a pretty desolate picture: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=linux+inte...o+graphic+chip
although searching for the proper name "intel gma 500" might get less pessimistic results.
op, if the nomodeset doesn't help, i'd start with a non-graphical install and work my way up from there.

Hi, I take it that you are a Mint Fan, but I can tell you from experience that if it doesn't work on ubuntu then it will not work on Mint. And I guess from your answer, you don't know poulsbo - its a "cursed" graphic GPU that never got 3D driver for linux, because the company who own the rights(not Intel) won't release the sourcecode, so no opensource driver can be made.
I thank you for your answer, but next time do a bit of research first
Nomodeset ended up in blank screen with blinking cursor in up left corner and stopped booting.
I went to this site hoping some linux guru's would see this and guide me with the boot parameters, that I need to boot Xubuntu 14.04 LTS 32bit - in front of me right now
Or point me to a more suitable linux/OS version.
Are there any specific boot parameters that woork with this netbook?
I were writing a big story of what I tried until the board here decided to erase it before I got it posted - The netbook is on it's way to be chopped up into parts for sale. So I'm sorry guys, but this is the end of this story. I'm really happy for all your inputs and thank you from the bottom of my heart
BTW, if you have this netbook - don't bother trying to reflash the bios as the mobo has a factory defect - one Acer never owned up to, but some people have got their mobo replaced and the netbook works fine now. Out of warranty, well your screwed!
The end!

Reason: forgot an e
I got it working on Bohdi with the driver that Alan Cox developed. This was probably a Ubuntu 14.04 equivalent system. It was usable in 2D and Midori browser. All we needed (not my system, but I did buy it ... ). It got tossed at the first opportunity.
