Acer and linux

I am ready to buy a new laptop and I have seen the Acer TM290LMi.

What do you know about the relationship Acer and linux?

Historically, Acers have been very friendly with penguins. I'm running Slack 8.1 on my Travelmate 512T without a problem. Have you seen this site?

I'm right now using an Acer 350TM with MDK9.1, and the only problem is with modem.
It's a Lucent AMR and of course not supported under linux.

Everything apart works fine. (video, sound, motherboard,....)
I used to have problems with the machine hanging without any reason, once a day!, but since I upgraded from 2.4 kernel to 2.6, I never had any hang.

So, you'd have to search your modem model's spec on the internet before you buy the laptop, and check if it is an AMR or another kind of Lucent winmodem.
Remember AMR is definitly not supported (at last until September 2003)
