a good distro for HP DV1000


Anyone have suggestions on a distro I can put on HP DV1000?? thanks ahead of time....

Choosing a distro is a personal thing and varies greatly depending on what you needs & wants are. If you tell people what you need/want they'll tell you what distro is best for that. Hardware has little or no impact on distro choice. Linux is linux and all distros will perform about the same on any given hardware.

a good distro for HP DV1000

I was thinking about gentoo or mandrake, I am looking for something that can basic stuff like burning dvds and other stuff for starters. An I am wanting to look for one thats been hardened too. Does that help any?? Later on and thanks!!

both good choices in my opinion. gentoo is completly customizable and has no extra bulk you dont need. however as for which to go with i'd say mandrake. its easy to install and it has the best laptop support out there. programs install fast and easy with urpmi, and it runs pretty well on most systems.

if your a noob go with mandrake for sure. if your not think about gentoo, but also realize it is a pain in the ass to set up and as an example it took me 19 hours to install gnome on my laptop (avaratec 3150)

I have used both and I know! But I have more experince with mandrake then gentoo, for that fact. but I wanted a 2nd option on it.
